Crib Set Idea & Dimensions

crib set
This darling crib set was made by a jcaroline creative! employee for another employee (what job perks!). The matching lampshade is the piece de resistance! The fabrics shown are P/Kaufmann's Mai Tai Honeydew and the Carolina Chambrays in Candy Pink, Lime and Yellow. We saw a cribset in a different colorway of this fabric selling for $950! So if you don't sew yourself, you can spend $75 on fabric and materials and you have $875 left to find someone to make it for you!
crib set
Yet another cribset from a jcaroline creative! employee. This one uses the Pink/Brown and Brown/Pink Polka Dot Canvas and the Pink/Brown Canopy Canvas. The blanket is Michael Miller's Candy Snuggle Up with the Pink Stripes Corduroy from Robert Kaufman. I love the diaper hamper!
Crib Set Dimensions
  • The standard crib is 30" x 54". The standard crib mattress is 27 1/4" x 52".
  • The standard fitted crib sheet is 28" x 52". The depth of the sheet will vary depending on your mattress-- most are 4" to 8" deep. You can make your own fitted sheets by sewing four corners and attaching elastic to the two short ends.
  • Crib bed skirt is 28" x 52" with an 11" drop. The corners are split to fit around the legs/posts. (Basically, sew two 28" x 11" pieces and two 52" x 11" pieces and attach to a 28" x 52" piece of fabric. Or add a one inch facing to the top of your rectangles and tape to the crib bottom under the mattress.)
  • The crib bumper is 10" high and 160" long. Sew a long skinny rectangle with ties placed along the top and bottom to attach to the crib. (Three points on each of the long sides should be plenty.) The ties should be about 7 1/2" long.
  • A toddler quilt is usually 36" x 50". The quilt is for decoration only and should be removed from crib when child is sleeping.
  • A standard toddler pillow is 12 x 19". Again, an infant should not sleep with a pillow.
Crib Safety
  • Safety standards assume a child is less than 35 inches high and under the age of 2. If cribs are used for an older or larger child, the child runs the risk of falling out.
  • Cribs should not be placed near anything that poses a danger of strangulation or suffocation (e.g. window cords).
  • The openings between the slats on the crib should not be more than 2 3/8".
  • A baby, newborn to 12 months, should be placed on its back to sleep.
  • Only a fitted mattress pad and sheet should be used on the mattress. The mattress should fit the crib securely without gaps betweeen the mattress and crib.
  • Pillows, plush animals and quilts should be used for decoration only and should be removed when the baby is sleeping in the crib.
