Slipcover Ideas

couch
My mother slipcovered the couch shown above with Braemore's Vanguard Jelly Bean. It took ten yards of fabric and many hours, but it turned out darling. I won't even attempt to give instructions on how to do it, but here are some tips:
  • Couches require approximately 10 to 11 yards.
  • Upholstered chairs take approximately 4 to 5 yards.
  • Covering the pads of dining room chairs takes 1/2 to 1 yard. This is by far the easier job to do and still makes a big impact. Experiment with different but matching fabrics to add more interest.
  • With large patterned fabric, you're relieved of any obligation to match the pattern. It would take huge amounts of fabric and complicates things anyway.
  • If you don't feel ambitious enough to try slipcovering, try covering huge pillows with cute fabrics instead and hide your couch underneath them.
