Valentine's Pennant and Card

Materials Needed: Fabric and/or felt- largest piece 12" x 12" (two for envelope). Ribbon for pennant and embellishment. Pennant needs 1 to 2 yards. any other embellishments- appliques, buttons, brads- you name it Heat and Bond Ultra Hold sheet Helpful Materials: temporary fabric adhesive for holding pattern to material
	Cut a piece of fabric approximately 12" x 12" and a piece of Heat n Bond Ultra Hold approximately 11-1/2" x 11 1/2". Iron the Heat n Bond to the wrong side of the fabric. Let the fabric cool before removing the paper backing.
	Cut another piece of fabric approximately 12" x 12" and press right side up to the Heat 'n Bond to create a two sided piece. Let fabric cool before handling.
	I like to use Temporary Spray Adhesive to hold my patterns to the fabric, but you could use pins or weights as well. Place the envelope pattern on the fabric and cut out. I used a rotary pinking blade to make an interesting edge, but that isn't necessary.
	After you've cut out the envelope, leave the pattern in place and use it as a guide to press in the folds to create the envelope..
	If you are creating an envelope for the pennant banner, you will want the envelope to open fully to get the banner in it. Cut a narrow piece (3/8" or 5/8" wide) of ribbon approximately 12" long. At the midpoint of the ribbon adhere a little strip (3/4") Ultra Hold to the right side of ribbon. Remove the paper backing and press it to the bottom flap of the envelope. Then using a small pair of scissors to create two slits on the top flap for the ribbon to pass through. (When you finish the pennant banner, you will place it in the envelope and push the ribbon through the slits and tie into a bow.)
	If you are creating an envelope for a card, you can iron two stripes of Heat n Bond Ultra Hold 3/8" (or just cut two strips from your Ultra Hold sheet) to the as shown in the picture. Remove the paper backing, fold the flap in and press the three flaps together. You can then use the Ultra Hold to adhere a 2" to 3" loop of ribbon to the underneath of the top flap. Glue a button to the bottom flap to create a closure. (I will warn you- the button I used was too small. Choose a larger button so you have a large enough surface to glue and still have room for the ribbon to slip around the button. And if you own a needle and thread, sewing the button on would be even better.)
	Now you can create your card or pennant banner. Both projects use appliques, which you can read a detailed how-to about those here. I made my card and pennants by appliquing fabric to felt to give it bulk. Again, I cut the pennants with a pinking blade because I was feeling fancy. I then appliqued on a coordinating fabric and finally, appliqued on the heart or letter.
	I pressed a 5/8" strip of Heat and Bond Ultra Hold across the top of each pennant. (The strips come on rolls, or you can just cut a 5/8" width strip out of your sheet.) Let cool and remove the paper backing.
	Place the pennants approximately 3" apart (in the correct order!) and press a 5/8" wide ribbon across the top to create a banner.
Other Ideas & Suggestions: If you aren't a fabric person, you can easily achieve the same idea with paper. If you are into needlework, add some embroidery stitches to your appliques. Beads, buttons, die cuts-- virtually anything can be added to your card or pennant.
