Materials Needed:
  • 49 1/2" inches of 1 1/2" velvet
  • 5" of 7/8" velvet
  • 1" plastic headband
  • Craft Glue
Step 1:

Cut your velvet into the following lengths:

  • 1 1/2" velvet
    • one piece 11"
    • one piece 9"
    • one piece 15 1/2"
    • one piece 14"
  • 7/8" velvet
    • two pieces 2 1/2"
Step 2:

Take the 11" piece of the 1 1/2" velvet and fold the end to the middle and repeat with the other end. Pin or baste in place. Repeat with the 9" piece. These pieces will be the bow loops.

Step 2
Step 3:

Place the shorter bow piece on top of the longer bow piece and stitch together down the middle.

Step 3
Step 4:

Take one piece of the 7/8" velvet and with right sides together, stitch the ends approximately 3/8" from the edge. (As close as you can on the machine within struggling.) Turn this piece right side out.

Step 4
Step 5:

Use a clothespin or small binder clip and clip your bow in half length wise from the back side in the middle. Carefully work the 7/8" velvet piece down the bow until it is situated in the middle of the bow. Make sure the seam of your 7/8" piece is on the back side of the bow.

Step 5
Step 6:

Adjust your bow and centerpiece to get the look you want.

Step 6
Step 7:

Slip the other piece of 7/8" velvet through the back of your bow, right side towards the bow.

Step 7
Step 8:

Take the 15 1/2" piece of 1 1/2" velvet (which will be the top of the headband) and position the bow 9" from the edge. Pulling the bow loops out of the way, stitch to the headband top on both sides of the bow using the strip of 7/8" velvet you ran through the back in the last step.

Step 8
Step 9:

Pin the 14" piece of velvet to the headband top, wrong sides together, placing the shorter piece 1 1/4" from the end. Stitch down both sides of the velvet.

Step 9
Step 10:

Feed your plastic headband through the 1 1/2" velvet case you have sewn. You should have approximately 1/4" of ribbon beyond the ends on both sides.

Step 10
Step 11:

Turn up the excess at the bottom of the headband and glue to the plastic with craft glue. Clip with clothespins or binder clips until dry.

Step 11
Step 12:

Now glue the sides toward the middle on both ends. Clip until dry.
